- This is the second of only two instances in which Australia is not the first to screen a Troughton story. (See also The Space Pirates.)
- The serial screened in the United States from September 1985 as a NTSC conversion. Canada screened the serial in the 1990s. New Zealand and Sweden also later aired the serial in the early 2000s.
- For the US, The War Games was edited into an omnibus "movie" edition in two parts.
